This is Germany. Everything is sacred here. So you can always upset some people. But the whole idea of staging a Bach Passion was very hard. It was up 2 years with the orchestra and still some people begging me not to do it.
Of course, it makes it hard. This is a hard profession and it doesn’t get any easier. You have to get used to that. You have to do best you can and realize that that is the best you can do.
He loves fresh interpretations. He always gives us the feeling the world has to hear this music.
He seems to be in a perpetual state of wonder. He knows what he wants, that’s very clear, but he also loves to work in the moment with what is in front of him.
